The Camden Town Shed is an association offering a workspace where users can work on practical projects or follow hobbies with others. The space is currently equipped for woodworking and hand-building in clay although we hope to extend that range.
Members decide when they come and what they do and enjoy learning from each other. The main sessions are for older people but other supervised sessions can be for over-18’s. To join the 'shed' there is an annual membership fee of £5 and thereafter our operating costs are funded by member donations and this is supported public courses and any items we make for sale. Members can come from anywhere in London.
Our facilities include: a fully equipped woodworking shop and a clay room and kiln.
Sessions held monthly throughout the year. For dates, pricing and booking follow this link http://bit.ly/2v
Let me introduce you to a different and absorbing new skill working with craftsman’s tools. In this one-day course and without any previous experience you will make a beautifully finished wooden bowl you can be proud of.
Our bowl-making classes are suitable for complete beginners. We take a maximum of ten people per session. You will be working in pairs, one supporting the other, taking turns to complete each stage in the production of your own bowl. The trainer demonstrates the method before each step, then you work at your own pace with his guidance and supervision. We usually have a very balanced mix of men and women of different ages. Just over half of attendees come on their own and the vast majority have no previous experience. You will be amazed at what you can do in five hours even if you have never handled woodworking tools before. Having shaped your bowl inside and out the colour and lustre of the chosen wood are brought out by high-speed but traditional finishing techniques. At the end of a busy and enjoyable day, you will have made something of form and beauty. We can help if you wish to progress further with turning or are interested in setting up your own workshop.
Our courses are tutored by Terry Vaughan, a turner of long experience who regularly teaches individuals at his own studio in north London. He is a real enthusiast for bowl-making and you can see some of his work on his website, www.turnedwoodenbowls.co.uk where he also offers lots of information about woodturning.
Everything is provided except lunch. It is best to bring a packed lunch and to wear clothes that wood chips won’t cling to or get inside. Long hair will need to be tied back. Suitable for 18+ and able-bodied people. No pets.Booking is only through our agent on HTTP://BIT.LY/2VHYIXA
The funds raised by these courses goes to our charity so we thank you in advance for your support.
